SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF
THE YEAR
ALLEGANY: Jordan
Ingalls of Bolivar-Richburg … Bolivar-Richburg’s Ingalls won this honor as an
eighth grader, when she led her team to the Sectional title and to the State
finals. She also was named as a POTY as a freshman when she pitched/hit
Bolivar-Richburg to the Class C State Title.
And she was picked as a sophomore and junior. Her fifth selection occurs in this her senior year. Ingalls, who will attend Youngstown State in
the fall, ended her six-year career as the state record-holder in strikeouts
and wins. She finished with 1,603
strikeouts, shattering the old mark of 1,427.
She had a120-18 career record.
Her team fell one victory short of capturing the Class C State softball
title this year.
FINGER LAKES EAST I: Erin Nargi of Victor … Pitcher Nargi was 20-2 this season. She had a 0.23 ERA with 20 shutouts, 332 strikeouts (12.84 per seven-inning game), and only 19 walks.
FINGER LAKES EAST II: Jacklyn Bates of Waterloo … Bates, a catcher, hit .435 with 40 hits including 13 extra base hits, 25 RBI’s and 34 runs scored. She led her team in batting average, hits, RBI’s and runs scored.
FINGER LAKES WEST: Jessica Herbst of Naples … Senior pitcher Herbst has pitched every game for Naples in the past three seasons. This past year she was 17-3 with eight shutouts and one no hitter. She pitched 129 innings with a 0.63 ERA with 154 strikeouts. Her career record is 46-17. At bat her average for the season was .507 with 36 hits. She will be attending Alfred State College in the fall.
GENESEE : Mary Bostwick of Oakfield-Alabama … Senior pitcher Bostwick went 15-0 this season with 172 strikeouts in 97 innings and a .0.47 ERA. She only gave up seven earned runs. At bat she had a .604 average with nine doubles, a triple, three home runs and 16 RBI’s.
LIVINGSTON I: Sara James of Wayland-Cohocton … Senior catcher/first baseman James hit .521 with 38 hits, including 12 doubles, four triples and four home runs. She drove in 36 runs and scored 34 runs. She was also eight-for-eight in stolen bases. She is considering Keuka College or Monroe Community College.
LIVINGSTON II: Claire Bennett of Caledonia-Mumford …Bennett, a senior pitcher, repeats as a player of the year for the third time. She pitched 103 innings and finished with an 18-2 record including 232 strikeouts, a 0.59 ERA, eight shutouts and one no hitter. At the plate she was 29-for-61 (.461) with 24 RBI’s.
LIVINGSTON III: Kelly Spear of Warsaw … Spear, a junior pitcher, also repeats as a player of the year. She was 18-5 this past year with one perfect game, eight shutouts and 212 strikeouts. At bat she hit .518 with a .771 slugging percentage, 13 extra base hits and 39 RBI’s.
MONROE I: Stacy Kuwik of Fairport … Kuwik, a junior pitcher, repeats as a player of the year. She was 19-3 this past season with a 0.34 ERA, 261 strikeouts, 10 shutouts, three no hitters and one perfect game. She also hit .500 with 17 extra base hits including eight doubles, six triples and three home runs. She had 33 RBIs.
MONROE II: Desarae Maldonado of Irondequoit … Freshman third baseman Maldonado hit .468 with eight triples and six doubles. She had 59 putouts and only two errors. She led her team in batting average, on base percentage, triples, doubles and overall hits.
MONROE III: Danielle Shelp of Pittsford Sutherland … A junior pitcher, Shelp had an 18-7 record with a 0.48 ERA, 228 strikeouts, eight shutouts, one no hitter and two one hitters. She pitched 161 innings, allowing only 95 hits and 21 walks. She hit .300 with nine RBI’s and made only two errors.
PRIVATE-PAROCHIAL: Brianna Allen of Aquinas… Allen repeats as a player of the year. Allen finished with 29 wins and 341 strikeouts. This includes seven no hitters, two perfect games and 19 shutouts. She led Aquinas to a sectional title where she was named tournament MVP. She also led Aquinas to their first and Section V’s first Class A State Championship. A five-time Birds Eye Player of the Week this season, she tied the section V record for no hitters (7) and broke the Section V record for innings pitched.
STEUBEN COUNTY I: Courtney Ergott of Addison… Addison’s senior catcher Ergott batted .422 for the season with an on base percentage of .663. A patient batter, she drew 20 walks, but also hammered out seven doubles, three triples and a home run, driving in 13 runs and scoring 29 herself. Ergott controlled the plate, preventing base runners from stealing with her quick accurate throws. She plans to continue playing ball at Corning Community College next year.
STEUBEN COUNTY II: Alison Cagle of Avoca … Avoca’s senior Cagle had a batting average of .475, including 10 doubles and four triples. Her on base percentage was .556. She batted in 10 runs while scoring 19. At the second base position, she made 19 putouts and had 34 assists, committing only six errors over the entire season. She will continue her softball career next year at Corning Community College.
WAYNE COUNTY: Kaylee Quigley of Gananda … Sophomore pitcher Quigley led Gananda to Wayne County’s first Section V Championship. On the mound she was 15-2 with 150 strikeouts and 0.89 ERA. She also had one save. At bat, she hit .418 with 28 hits including three doubles, two triples, a home run, and 31 RBI’s.

a pre-game ceremony at the Rochester Red Wing’s game at Frontier Field on
Tuesday, July 1.
