Update on State Women's Lax Committee Meeting
The Women's State Lacrosse committee meet in Albany on December 3rd.
At that meeting their were two main topics of discussion. The first topic was about the possibility of women's Lacrosse wearing helmets as a mandate.
After much discussion the committee was unanimous in our vote not to support wearing helmets as a mandate. The State safety committee last week reported to the executive committee on their rcommendations and the NYSPHSAA Executive committee voted to continue to monitor the issue and begin collecting data that would better support any future decisions either way. Therefore, there will be no mandate for helmets for 2009 Women's Lacrosse. The second topic was about creating a new classification structure to better balance the number of schools in each of the classifications A, B and C across the State. Again, after much discussion, it was decided to do a more complete study of the issue and obtain more accurate information from each section, as to the number of schools in each classification and the number of combined schools as well..Therefore, there will be no change in state classifications in Women's Lacrosse for the 2009 season.
The Winter meeting for the Women's Section V Lacrosse committee will be held on Wed, January 28th @ 7pm. ( I have not confirmed it yet, but I hope to hold the meeting at Victor CSD Administrative building again this year.) The committee is made up of any Head Coach from any member school. Our agenda will include, site selection for this years tournaments semi's and finals, awards, handbook changes if any, possible rule changes and any other topics that are brought to my attention prior to the meeting. It's your tournament come have your say.
