The Brighton girls lacrosse team lost 12-10 to Section VIII's Garden City in this morning's Class B state championship game at the State University College at Cortland.

The Barons (19-2) led 9-7 with seven minutes left in regulation, but Garden City (21-1), which won its state-record ninth title, forced OT tied at 9. The state's No. 1-ranked team scored twice in the first 42 seconds of the extra session, then held on.

Senior Erin Brennan led Garden City with six goals and two assists. Junior Bea Conley had four goals for Brighton, while senior Rachel DerCola (one goal, three assists) and senior Rachel Ballatori (two goals, one assist) also contributed.

Ballatori closed her All-American career with 182 carer goals and 49 assists.
Brighton built a 4-1 lead with 6 minutes left in the first half, but Garden City came back. It scored twice in the final 38 seconds to tie it, 4-4, at halftime and scored two more times in the first 2:13 of the second half to take a 6-4 lead.
