1.
Amateur
Status: A bowler must not
bowl in a league where money is awarded (whether the bowler received it or not)
and a bowler may not bowl on
an adult league. He/she may bowl in a
Father-Son or Adult-Junior league where the prizes awarded are certificates,
trophies or plaques. He/she may bowl in
a USBC youth sanctioned league.
The state has placed a penalty of one-year suspension if rule 400
regarding amateur status is not followed.
2. TEAM
QUALIFICATION:
The top 10 teams from each class (A, B, C
& D) will qualify to participate in sectionals. Each team’s 5 starters must have bowled a minimum
of 16 games each (not matches) to establish a qualifying team average. The non starters (substitute bowlers) will
need a minimum of 6 matches (at least one game in each match) to bowl as
a sub on the team.
3. NEW INDIVIDUAL QUALIFICATION:
Individual
athletes may still qualify to compete for a spot on the composite team if their
team does not bowl in sectionals.
From all of the entries, the top 20 boys with
a qualifying average of 180 or higher and
the top 20 girls with a qualifying average of 135 or higher across all 4
classes that are not on the top 10 qualifying teams can compete individually
for a chance to make the composite team.
These individual bowlers will compete, five athletes per lane on the
same day as the team event. To qualify
as an individual bowler competing for the composite team your athletes must
have a minimum of 16 games.
It
is important that every team get their paperwork in by the deadline. We will be notifying the teams and
individuals that qualify to bowl in the sectional tournament by phone within 1
week of the deadline.
4. A school may only enter (1) team in the
tournament. There will be no exceptions
to this rule. One boy
and one girls’ team from a coed school.
One boy’s team from a boys’ school or one girl’s team from a girls’ school. (Ex. McQuaid – one
team, Mercy – one team)
5. We bowl 6 games – total pin fall determines
the winner. All scores are scratch. Our tournament is a team only event. Five (5) bowlers per team - no blind scores. MINIMUM LEGAL LINE-UP is five (5)
bowlers.
6. Alternate lanes after each frame; begin
the next game on the lane where you finished your last game. After the break, you will be seeded according
to the position you are in after the first 3 game set.
(ex:
1 vs. 2, 3 vs. 4, etc.)
7. Substitutes may be used at the start of
any game. The names of substitutes must
be on the roster you submit to us in January.
8. Each coach must complete the roster
completely and include the following information. The roster must include the following
information: Include a complete list of eligible bowlers.
a. Athletes’
last name, first name, phone number, # of games bowled for each of the five
starters, # of matches for the
substitutes and the average for each individual on the team.
b. Team
average – based on the five (5) starting bowlers.
c. Class
A, Class B, Class C or Class D, see classification list enclosed, school name,
school address, athletic director’s name and school phone number.
d. Coach’s
name, phone number or cell phone and league name.
(WE NEED THIS INFORMATION BY) February 2nd. no rosters
will be accepted after this date.
9. When you enter the bowling center, the
coach must sign in and receive the lane assignment. You are not allowed to practice on the lanes
the day of the tournament.
10. No team will be allowed to bowl if they do
not have a coach or supervisor present.
No team will be allowed to bowl if they do not have 5 bowlers to start.
11. AWARDS
– BOYS AND GIRLS
Team: School receives Section V trophy, each
member of the team will receive a white patch and certificate. Only six patches will be given. A team wanting more than six must have their
athletic director order the extra patches from Jackie Meyer.
Individual: 1st
high 6 game series will receive patch and certificate,
2nd high 6 game series will
receive a certificate.
Individual: 1st
high single game will receive a patch and certificate.
2nd high single game will receive
a certificate.
12. Winning teams in Class A, Class B, Class C and
Class D (both boys and girls) will be the teams with the highest total pin
fall. There is one winner in each
class. The team with the highest overall
pin fall (from Class A, B, C or D) will be entered in the intersectional
tournament (States).
13. There will be two All Sectional teams, 1
boys and 1 girl’s team. These teams will
be chosen from any of the non-winning teams or the individuals that competed
for a place on the All Section Team.
Selection of bowlers for the All-Section team will be based on total
pin-fall for 6 games on the day of the tournament. The members of this team will be selected at
the completion of bowling on the day of the tournament. A bowler must be present at the time of
selection, if not; another bowler will be selected in his/her place. A girl bowling on a boy’s team will have to
qualify as a boy for the All-Section Team.
She cannot qualify for the girls’
team.
14. Section V Bowling tournament will be held
February 12 and
15. Any
rule pertaining to bowling not covered above will be found in the USBC
handbook. USBC rules will govern our
tournament except for the addition of the state rule on amateur status.
16. Only coaches and their bowlers will be
allowed to set at the table in front of the bleachers &/or chairs. All others must sit in the bleachers
provided. This is a Section V sponsored event; therefore all observers will
need to pay a $4.00 gate fee to enter the bowling center. Children 5 and under are free. Only coaches and their bowlers for that day
are free.
Please note: The boys and girls Sectional Tournament
will be held at AMF Gates Bowl,
Reminder – You will not be allowed to bring food
into the bowling center. It will be
taken away at the door so please share this information with parents.

Start time First 3 game set
Start time Second 3 game set 1 hour after the last teams finish. An announcement will be made as to
the official start time for the second set.
